Newcastle offers a range of youth recreation programs that help kids stay active, build skills, and have fun. Through a partnership with Skyhawks Sports at Lake Boren Park, children from preschool to 12 years old can take part in year-round sports and activities for all skill levels. Summer camps offer even more chances for kids to learn new things, stay active, and make friends during the school break.

Spring Sports

Spring Sports programs at Lake Boren Park through Skyhawks Sports are available for kids ages 2 to 12, including basketball, flag football, multi-sport, pickleball, soccer, and tennis. Separate classes for tots give younger children a fun introduction to sports and movement. Three 4-week sessions run from March through May, with registration opening in January.

Summer Camps: Challenge Island

Challenge Island STEAM Camps at Lake Boren Park offer playful, imaginative experiences for kids ages 6 to 12. Campers explore STEM + Art through fun themes like Slimetopia, World Cruise, and Arcade Mania, sparking creativity and problem-solving skills. Camps run from 9:00 a.m. to noon for three one-week sessions: July 6–10, July 20–24, and August 10–14, with a maximum of 30 campers per session.


Registration opens March 30.

Summer Camps: Skyhawks Sports

Skyhawks Sports Camps at Lake Boren Park are open to kids ages 4 to 12. Campers can enjoy baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, cheerleading, flag football, multi-sport, soccer, and tennis while staying active, building skills, and making new friends. Half-day morning and full-day camp options are available. Camps run for 10 weeks starting June 22, with registration opening in March.

Summer Camps: Steamoji Newcastle

Steamoji Camps at the Newcastle location (6920 Coal Creek Pkwy SE, Ste 4) provide hands-on STEAM learning for kids ages 5 and up. Campers take part in activities focused on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, including robotics, coding, 3D design, and digital creation. Camps run for nine weeks starting the week of June 22, offering fun, discovery-based experiences that spark creativity and problem-solving skills.
