Deputy Mayor Charbonneau
Paul Charbonneau was elected in 2021 and re-elected in 2025 as Newcastle’s youngest-ever councilmember and the first to grow up in the city. In 2026, his colleagues elected him to a two-year term as Deputy Mayor. He works as the Deputy Director of a local consulting firm and is Assistant Coach for the Boys & Girls Wrestling team at his alma mater, Hazen High School.
Paul serves on the board of the Washington Youth Alliance, is Treasurer for his union AFT Local 6648, and mentors undergraduate students in the University of Washington’s Public Policy and International Affairs fellowship program, of which he is an alumnus. He earned a B.A. in Political Science and Public Health from Occidental College, where he served as Student Body President and competed as an NCAA athlete in football and track & field.
Passionate about mental health, Paul is a certified peer counselor and has led youth support groups, educational programs, and public policy efforts on the board on the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Eastside. He rents in the Olympus neighborhood where he grew up with two kittens, Oogi and Naga, and enjoys connecting with neighbors in the community and on local trails.
