COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

The Community Development Department oversees land use, development, and code enforcement activities within the City of Newcastle. The functions of the department are split into two divisions:

Building Division, which handles construction permitting and code enforcement. Building staff also assist in the intake of applications, as well as perform required site inspections through the duration of construction projects.

Planning Division, which oversees land use and development applications (such as subdivisions, variances, and conditional use permits) and state environmental regulation compliance. Additionally, the Planning Division assists in the long-range planning efforts of the City, and provides staff support to the City Council, Planning Commission, and Newcastle Neighborhood Group.

Working in tandem, both divisions of the department ensure development and construction projects meet State and City standards, and strive to provide the best service to residents and business owners in the City of Newcastle.
