The City of Newcastle is known for a robust culture of volunteerism. It's easy to participate in your community. The following groups regularly volunteer in the city:

LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS

Newcastle Trails: Newcastle Trails is a nonprofit organization focused on the preservation, expansion and maintenance of the city's vast trail network.

Newcastle Historical Society: The mission of the Newcastle Historical Society is to celebrate and preserve the history of Newcastle and its people in order to ensure this legacy is passed on to future generations. The hold occasional cemetery cleanup parties.

— Coal Creek Family YMCA: The local Coal Creek YMCA is a great community partner. The Y occasionally partners with the city on events, food drives and more!

Newcastle Arts Council: The Newcastle Arts Council shares and promotes music and fine arts in the city.

— Friends of the Newcastle Library: The Friends of the Newcastle Library is a volunteer nonprofit organization that exists to support the library. The Friends group does this through raising funds, community outreach and soliciting members of the community to join in support of the library.

Newcastle Kiwanis Club: The Newcastle area Kiwanis Club meets on the fourth Friday of every month at noon at Aegis Gardens. Kiwanis International and its family of clubs annually raise more than $100 million and dedicate more than 18.5 million volunteer hours to strengthen communities and serve children

CITY OF NEWCASTLE GROUPS

City Commissions: Residents play an important role in local government by serving on commissions or as volunteers on various advisory committees to make Newcastle a better city. Members on the Community Activities Commission and Planning Commission are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council. When there are commission vacancies, the city will announce it on its website and social media, and solicit applications from the community. Newcastle Youth Community Engagement (NYCE): The organization is a board for teens to develop leadership skills and enhance the City of Newcastle. With advisors from the City of Newcastle, Newcastle Library and the Coal Creek Family YMCA, teens have role models and mentors to guide them in gaining leadership skills and fostering a culture of service.
