Aegis Gardens, the Coal Creek Family YMCA, the City of Newcastle and a committed group of citizen volunteers are partnering to help Newcastle residents in need during this COVID-19 outbreak. We’ve united to mobilize resources and support for our vulnerable residents.

Our Newcastle Cares Essentials Drive launched in April 2020 and puts items like toilet paper, paper towels and various non-perishable foods into the hands of seniors who may feel uncomfortable going out or shopping. Now, we're expanding the program to include Newcastle citizens of all ages. If you are a Newcastle resident who is struggling amidst the global pandemic and could use some assistance with grocery essentials, we invite you to join us at our twice-a-month free distribution events.

All items will be collected and distributed to Newcastle residents on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Aegis Gardens' Stan Head Cultural Center (13056 SE 76th St.). We have non-perishable foods, paper products (toilet paper, tissue, wipes, paper towels), sanitizer and more. We invite all Newcastle residents who could use some support to stop by and pick up anything they might need. You do not need to get out of your car, we will bring the goods to you. If you are a senior who is unable to drive to the distribution day or you do not feel comfortable going out, please email to discuss delivery options.

A dedicated group of volunteers has stepped up to administer this program and ensure it continues, but we need your help!

Inventory is running low and we're seeking community donations to keep this important program going! There are two options to lend a hand:

1.) We've created an Amazon Wish List of requested items. You can purchase items there and have them shipped directly to Aegis Gardens, where we distribute donations. At checkout select "Newcastle Cares Gift Registry Address" for the shipping location or input Aegis Gardens address manually 13056 SE 76th St, Newcastle, WA 98056. View the Wish List here:

2.) You can drop off donations at Aegis Gardens (13056 SE 76th St.) or the Newcastle City Hall lobby (12835 Newcastle Way) starting on Monday, December 7.

Aegis Gardens, the Coal Creek Family YMCA and the City of Newcastle are partnering to help citizens in need during this COVID-19 outbreak. We’re uniting to connect vulnerable Newcastle residents with resources and volunteers who want to help.

We are working together to assess the needs of vulnerable residents during this critical time. We’ll reach out to them, see how they’re doing, ask how we can help them, then mobilize support and resources. The YMCA is checking up on all of its senior members, while our partners at Aegis Gardens will focus on non-YMCA members of our community who reach out to them.

“During this critical time, it’s vital that we come together as a community to help our neighbors in need,” said Newcastle City Manager Rob Wyman. “We are so grateful for community partners like Aegis Gardens and the YMCA for stepping up to lend a hand.”
