Newcastle Days 2018 Overview
Posted on 08/24/2018

It's easy to reflect on all the great things about living in Newcastle: Its rich history and tradition, the small-town feeling and community cohesiveness, the scenic trail system, the summer events that bring residents together, and so much more. But the culmination of it all is Newcastle Days, where neighbors and friends gather to celebrate not only our history, but also our friendships, our community and our future. We cordially invite you to join us this Sept. 7-8 as we honor the City of Newcastle’s 24th birthday with a full slate of exciting events.

Here’s a quick overview of what’s happening at the 2018 Newcastle Days celebration:

This year, Newcastle Days will be bigger and better than ever. To celebrate the event, new business VERDE Organic Body will host a slate of free exercise classes at its studio in the Newcastle Commons on Wednesday, Sept. 5. On Thursday, the Newcastle Arts Council will debut a special art show at the Newcastle Library featuring works from local artists. Please join us for the opening reception Sept. 6 from 7-9 p.m. at the Newcastle Library. On Saturday, Sept. 15, join us at Aegis Gardens from 3-4 p.m., for a free concert by the celebrated Seattle Chinese Orchestra, the only traditional Chinese orchestra in the Pacific Northwest.

Back by popular demand, we’ll kick off the weekend with our annual stage show Broadway on Boren the evening of Friday, Sept. 7, at Lake Boren Park. You'll see quite an array of local performers singing Broadway show tunes. The main festival event is an all-day affair at Lake Boren Park on Sept. 8. Join us Saturday morning when the day starts with a morning stretch in the park at 10 a.m. sponsored by VERDE, followed by our traditional parade around the park. From pony rides to a petting zoo, to inflatables, face painting, and family games, there will be a variety of activities for all age groups.

Expect more family games and an outstanding lineup of live music performances, with Newcastle’s own Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Alan White as the festival headliner. Plan on spending some time visiting the booths, learning more about the businesses that support our community. And, don't forget to walk through the classic car show and delight in these marvels from the past!

NEW THIS YEAR — Come on down to the park from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday to see your favorite superheroes wandering through the park. Pose for a picture or get an autograph, or head over to the photo booth and take goofy pictures with your friends using some great props. There will be new arts and crafts to enjoy, too: Make your own fans and create masterpiece art on the sidewalk with the Newcastle Arts Council.

And of course, you can top it all off with a delicious snack or meal from one of our food trucks and, for those 21 and older, a visit to the always popular Newcastle Chamber of Commerce beer and wine garden for a cold one!

We'd like to thank our sponsors who make this celebration possible, especially Platinum and Gold level sponsors Waste Management and BECU. All sponsors are an integral part of making our community the great place it is.

We hope you'll enjoy Newcastle Days and the expanded activities we have planned leading up to it! Come on down to visit with old friends and make new ones. Throughout the month of August, stay tuned to the City of Newcastle social media channels and newcastlewa.gov/newcastledays as the Community Activities Commission brings you more details, the official schedule, videos and articles about the 2018 Newcastle Days celebration!
