Children & Families

Toddler Story Time
Monday, July 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 10:15 and 11:30 AM
Join us for 30 minutes of silly songs and fun stories! This program is designed with toddlers in mind (children ages 1-3) but all children are welcome. Play time with a parachute, blocks, toys and bubbles takes place right after Story Time.

Infant Story Time
Wednesday, July 4, 11, 18 and 25, 10:15 AM
Newborn to 12 months with adult, siblings are welcome to attend. Introduce your baby to books! Join us for silly songs and fun stories in this 30 minute lapsit program for pre-walkers! Play time with shakers, blocks, and bubbles takes place right after Story Time.

Preschool Story Time
Wednesday, July 4, 11, 18 and 25, 11:30 AM
Ages 3 to 5 with adult, siblings are welcome to attend. Join us for silly songs, fun stories and work on kindergarten readiness skills in this 30 minute program for preschoolers. Play time with a parachute, blocks and bubbles takes place right after Story Time!

Japanese Story Time
Thursday, July 5, 12, 19 and 26, 10:30 AM
Family program, all ages welcome. Come to the meeting room for stories and songs in Japanese! This program is for Japanese speaking children and families, and for children learning Japanese.

Family Noisemakers Art Workshop
Tuesday, July 10, 2:00 PM
Presented by Emily Mallory. Ages 3 and older; younger children with adult. Let's make some noise! Learn about different everyday sounds, from rain drops to trains to birds. Then create your own noisemaker by constructing a musical paper clacker after learning a series of shapes and folds. Space is limited. First Come, first served.

The Ear & the Brain Science Workshop

Presented by Witty Scientists (Mariola Kulawiec). Ages 5 and older. Sounds are all around us and our ears can detect most of them. But it is our brain that collects, sorts, separates and compares them. Learn all about the mechanics of hearing and how your ears and brain work together to recognize sounds! Space is limited. African Music & Dance Showcase

Adults, All Ages, Children & Families, Infants, Kids, Preschoolers, Seniors, Teens, Toddlers, Tweens
Presented by Gansango Dance Company. Family program, all ages welcome. You won't be able to resist dancing and enjoying yourself at this program! A talented group of musicians and dancers will entertain you with contemporary and traditional West African dance, drumming and songs.

Sound Storm Maker Workshop

Presented by KidsQuest Children's Museum. Ages 5 and older. Fascinated by weather and storms? Come learn how to make musical instruments out of recycled materials to emulate a rain storm and even thunder claps. Discover how a "lightning" circuit works and learn all about the science of thunderstorms. Registration required. Registration begins on July 1st. Sponsored by the Friends of the Newcastle Library.

Let's Write a Song Workshop

Presented by Morgan Taylor. Ages 12 to 17. This Grammy nominee guides a fun and accessible introduction into the art of songwriting. Discover how to brainstorm lyrical concepts and explore rhythm, cadence and poetic rhyme structures. Witness the magic of pulling inspiration out of thin air, and then singing a song we will write together. Sponsored by the Friends of the Newcastle Library.

Rock, Paper, Scissors Greetings Art Workshop

Wednesday, July 25, 3:00 PM
Presented by Emily Mallory, artist. Ages 12 to 17. Learn several art techniques ranging from collage, Moroccan windows and iris folding. Use recycled sheet music, world maps and other interesting papers to make greeting cards. All supplies provided. Registration begins Wednesday, July 11, 7pm. Memoirs written as a way to pass down a personal legacy have emerged as a personal and family responsibility. This program concentrates on the development of short, single-topic memoirs. These can become a more a lengthy memoir, one dealing with a whole life. In the first session we will examine ways to identify and start converting memories to a short story about an event in your life. A variety of tools to help you move forward are provided. The second session will give you the opportunity to get feedback on your progress to date. Writing tips will be covered.
